Word of the Day: Neathage

The wonder from down under: Australian cleavage.

Today I heard a reference to a Beavis & Butthead quote that goes something like, "I like it when you can see the bottom of the thingies." Those profound words reminded me that I'd recently seen a term for "the bottom of the thingies." The challenge was to remember where in the course of my internet travels I had stumbled across such a definition.

Several weeks ago I used the word 'decolletage' (memorable because it's not a word I use every day) and wanted to make sure I was using it correctly. So, after checking dictionary.com, I went to Wikipedia. Wikipedia redirected me to "cleavage." At that time, the Wikipedia entry for cleavage contained a reference to neathage (a.k.a. underboob, a.k.a. Australian cleavage, a.k.a. reverse cleavage, a.k.a. under-cleavage). That section of the Wikipedia article has since been removed. But the neathage lives on - in the form of blogs, Flickr groups, and thousands of adoring fans.
