WIRED Store 2009

by Paul Kieper last modified 2010-01-03 01:39

Last weekend Becca and I checked out this year's WIRED Holiday Store in the Meatpacking District.  Since 2005, WIRED magazine has been creating an annual pop-up store in various New York locations.  The "stores" allow visitors to try out all kinds of products that have been featured in the magazine (and a bunch that haven't), but don't actually sell anything other than WIRED-branded merch like t-shirts.

Each year the store only exists for six weeks (approximately from Thanksgiving to Christmas), something I learned the hard way after visiting the 2006 store and trying to return with some guests from out of town in September of 2007, only to find that it had disappeared.

These stores are pretty ideal for me, since they have all kinds of fun gadgetry and no annoying sales people (plus this year they had complementary espresso and bottles of tea).  I think it's going to become my NYC holiday tradition (take that, Rockefeller tree).
