The Sandpit

"The Sandpit"

Check out this amazing short film titled "The Sandpit." The film is actually 35,000 still photos taken with a Nikon D3 and a Nikon D80. The "miniature" effect, which is usually accomplished through the use of a tilt-shift lens, was actually done in post production. I recommend checking out this interview with the filmmaker, Sam O'Hare. Also, for the full effect, pull up the Vimeo video in full screen HD (if your computer hardware permits). The shots with the bulldozers and backhoes are from Brooklyn Bridge Park, which is currently under construction about three blocks from our apartment.

Hey buddies

You were right, full screen HD was the way to go.

For some strange reason I was reminded of the Dozers from Fraggle Rock at certain times in the film.

Extraordinary Sandpit

This strikes me as both disturbing and fascinating
maybe those qualities that are tweaked in other people by horror films. There's something about the miniaturization in combination with what are obviously not animated figures that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Utterly brilliant.
