Frequently Asked Questions. Kind of a misnomer, since none of these questions have been asked at the time of writing this. But they are questions that I anticipate being asked. So, without further ado, the Possibly Asked Questions.
What is www.alightonforus.com?
This site is a common meeting ground for the greatest thinkers of our time. It's a place to share current events, random thoughts, interesting facts, not-so-interesting facts, gossip, stories, jokes, quotable quotes, photos, music, websites and just about anything else that tickles your fancy.
Why does www.alightonforus.com exist?
I started the site as a means for staying in touch with friends that had become scattered across this great nation. I'm not very good about making phone calls. So this is my attempt to reach out and touch someone (figuratively, I think). That's why I am here. As for you being here, that's your own deal.
How do I add content?
The first thing to do is register with the site. After you have an account, you'll log in and see a link for "my folder" in the upper right-hand section of the page. My Folder is where you are master of your own domain. You can create News Items (which are what you see on the main page), Photo Albums, Events, so on and so forth. You can create Folders to organize all of your stuff, too.
How do I add content to the main sections of the site?
- The first thing to do it click on my folder in the upper right-hand corner on the blue bar.
- Now click add to folder on the green bar.
- Select the type of item you'd like to add. Everything that shows up on the home page is a News Item.
- When you add content to your folder, it starts off in a Public Draft state (the state is displayed in the upper right-hand corner, below the my folder link). Public Draft means that other users can view the content if they click on your folder or if you send them the URL to anything in your folder. If you don't want some content to be viewable by other members, change the state to Private. Anyway, back to the task at hand.
- If you want something, a News Item for example, to be posted on the main page of the site you have to change the state to Submit.
- Once it is submitted, a reviewer change the state to Published and the News Item will show up on the home page.
What's in a name?
The site's name was ripped off of a Sensefield song. The title of the song is "Are You Okay." See lyrics below.
