Good Eats
A new theme dedicated to all great things edible.
So, in addition to my occasional contribution to West Coast Pics and usual witty banter in commenting on other people's posts, I thought a new theme dedicated to food would be a good addition to this site. The idea started with Paul's post about Google Spreadsheets and has been festering ever since. The name of the subject comes from one of my favorite Food Network shows (and coincindently the one where I get many of my base recipes from).
We begin with one of my lifelong favorites. I was fortunate enough to get to taste my favorite sandwich in the world last week on my trip back east to NY. It's formal name it the "American Bomber". Us Long Islanders simply refer to it as "The Bommah".
"The Bommah" is made up of two chicken
cutlets fried to perfection without being overly crunchy or soft. It's
topped with melted cheese, bacon, and Russian dressing. Real Russian
dressing too. Not Thousand Island, not ketchup & mayo mixed
together, but real deal Russian dressing I've yet to find elsewhere.
It's served up on a garlic-buttered French roll toasted to perfection.
This
marvelous meal of mastication was first discovered by the legendary
Alex Jimenez (who actually came across this sandwich from another Long
Islander, Jeff Tan. Where and how he discovered it is a mystery.
Though he is asian, and history dictates that they hold many of life's
mysteries). Anyway, it was passed down to myself shortly thereafter
and has become a ritualistic journey whenever I am in town. Always
eaten with Alex in presence, it has filled me to complete excess and
often results in total exhaustion afterwards.
One of the
greatest mysteries AND allures to such a masterpiece of consumption is
that it isn't located in some upscale restaurant. It's not even
available in some cute Mom & Pop cafe. No sir, this can only be
purchased at the "24 Hour Convenience Store" (I shit you not...that is
it's actual name. Which, while unoriginal, DOES serve two purposes as
both name AND description of the establishment).
So, if you are ever on Long Island and craving that which can not be matched anywhere else, I highly suggest "The Bommah". You won't be disappointed.

Yum Yums
It made me think of some tasty chicken tender subs (slathered with Frank's Red Hot) from the Bi-Rite convenience store across from RIT. Bi-Rite was a great place for students to work because they included free pizza, beer, and girly magazines in their benefit package.
I could eat a sandwich from the gas station. Seriously though, that looks like a tasty treat. Paul, when I'm in NYC w/ Patty Wack we are going to spend the entire time eating and drinking hot chocolate. Oh, and riding the Coney Island Cyclone.
