Frito Pie with Texas Chili always make Jason a happy boy

Good Eats - Hard Times Cafe

Chili under Moonlight

I've been meaning to contribute to the "Good Eats" portion of alofu for quite some time. Being a man that enjoys his grub, I feel that I can talk the talk when it comes to a tasty treat. Last night the wife and I made a trip over to Hard Times for some Texas for me, and Terlingua for her (both good choices). It probably took me 2 1/2 minutes to take care of the delicious bowl of Fritos, chili, sour cream, and cheese...only to pay the price dearly last night. But still, great food, good prices, definitely a treat when I head over to downtown Raleigh....and a favorite of the Coastal crew from back in the day.

Taste:   I could eat this every day

Cost:  With tip, around $10

Quality:  4 kinds of chili, all kinds of things to put them on.  (frito pie is the favorite of mine)

Atmosphere:  Kind of dim inside, has a good sized bar and a great terrace overlooking Glennwood South

Health:  It's going to hurt later, but feels oh so good going down

This is Paul's signature dish! He always makes this delicious shit when he has to cook. Now I know where he gets it from.

Uh oh!

My secret's out. Yes, I did rip the Frito Pie concept off of Hard Times Cafe. It's just so damn easy to make (and tasty). At Hard Times, the Terlingua is my chili of choice. At home I go with Amy's Medium Vegetarian.

"Chili Under Moonlight." What could be more romantic than that? The waitresses in the "Stand Back 500ft" t-shirts are always a nice touch, too.
